From August 15, 2025, private vehicle owners in India can avail of the FASTag Annual Toll Pass, a new initiative aimed at making long-distance highway travel smoother and more affordable. The pass, which has until now been available only for non-commercial vehicles like cars and vans, will allow seamless access across all National Highways (NHs) in the country.
Transforming Highway Travel
Introduced under the National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) system in 2014, FASTag uses RFID technology to enable cashless toll payments and reduce congestion at toll plazas. This new annual pass takes convenience to the next level by offering unlimited nationwide highway use for a fixed period or number of trips.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, in a statement to the Rajya Sabha, highlighted that the initiative will save time, reduce traffic bottlenecks, and potentially lower travel costs for motorists. The economic benefits will depend on usage frequency and the number of toll crossings made each year.
Price & Validity
As per the official notification, the FASTag Annual Toll Pass 2025 is priced at ₹3,000.
- Validity: One year or 200 highway toll plaza crossings — whichever comes first.
- Eligibility: Only for non-commercial vehicles with a valid, functional FASTag linked to the vehicle’s registration number (VRN). Passes cannot be issued for FASTags registered only with a chassis number.
Required Documents for Registration
Applicants must submit:
- Registration Certificate (RC) of the vehicle
- Passport-size photo of the owner
- KYC documents as per vehicle owner category
- Valid ID proof and address proof
How to Apply Online
The FASTag Annual Pass can be purchas via:
- NHAI FASTag official portal
- Rajmargyatra mobile application
- Partner bank websites (e.g., HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Paytm Payments Bank)
- Leading e-commerce platforms
Activation Process
To activate the pass:
- Download the Rajmargyatra app or visit the NHAI website.
- Verify vehicle and FASTag details.
- Pay ₹3,000 for the 2025–26 base year.
- Activation is usually complet within two hours.
Renewal & Expiry
Once the pass hits 200 trips or completes one year, it reverts to a regular FASTag. To continue enjoying the benefits, users need to re-activate for another term.
